Wallsend town centre itself has a shopping centre, although this isn't really driven by tourist business. Elsewhere in the town centre are shops such as Woolworths, and many grocers, butchers, and fishmongers. Again, not particularly touristy.
For those of you visiting who just must spend the sterling, the Metrocentre Europe's largest shopping centre at the time of writing is served directly from Wallsend by bus. Also, easily reached by public transport are Newcastle upon Tyne and the Royal Quays outlet centre.
